What is a fixed gas detection system?
Fixed gas detection systems monitor for dangerous gases — natural gas in boiler rooms, carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide in car parks, refrigerant leaks in plant rooms, and oxygen depletion where inert gases are stored. On detection they raise alarms and may shut off gas, start ventilation or stop plant. Sensors drift and have a limited life, so they must be calibrated and bump-tested to the manufacturer's schedule, commonly every six months, following BS EN 60079-29-2 for flammable gas detectors.
